Ingredients
4firm white bread slices,or other savory bread, or brioche, or rye, or pumpernickel, or egg
1tbspunsalted butter
2tbspolive oil
salt and freshly ground pepper,to taste, optional
Preparation
Stack the bread slices on a cutting board, then remove the crusts from each side. Cut the stack crosswise in each direction into ½-inch or 1-inch cubes.
Melt the butter and the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the bread cubes, then sauté for about 3 minutes, until golden and crisp on all sides.
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, then stir to coat.
Serve over soups or salads, and enjoy!
