Ingredients
1 head cabbage, small, shredded
2 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 oz carrots, shredded
3 tbsp bacon drippings
1½ tsp salt
½ tsp ground black pepper
6 hot dogs
⅓ cup broth, pork, chicken, or beef
3 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp flour
6 hot dog buns
condiments, of your choice
parsley, chopped
Preparation
Fry the hotdogs in a hot deep skillet with the bacon drippings and set aside.
Place shredded cabbage in a large skillet; add shredded apples, and broth. Bring to a boil then season with salt and ground black pepper.
Cook for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly, or until cabbage is tender but still crisp. Drain and reserve the liquid.
Combine vinegar, sugar, flour, and the cabbage liquid.
Pour into the cabbage mixture and cook until thickened and smooth, and set aside.
Assemble this with your toasted bread and top with your choice of condiment or sauce, then garnish with chopped parsley. Enjoy!
